Rare infection treated in local hospital

A 69-year-old male has just been discharged from St Andrew’s Ipswich Private Hospital after contracting tetanus. Tetanus is an extremely rare bacterial infection that affects the central nervous system. Widespread vaccinations against tetanus were introduced in Australia nearly 70 years ago. Since 1995, fewer than ten cases have been reported each year, with two-thirds of cases in the over 65s.

Orthopaedic robot a Central Queensland first

Hillcrest Rockhampton Private Hospital has invested in a two-million-dollar robot, offering orthopaedic surgeons an additional treatment option to carry out knee and hip replacements.
